During the Soviet era, there were periodic newsreels, such as “Soviet Georgia,” which were shown in cinemas before the start of a screening. These were collections of short 5–10 minute segments featuring the country’s achievements, construction projects, or culture. Between 1959 and 1965, Otar Iosseliani prepared more than 10 such documentary segments, including an essay dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire.
