Otar Iosseliani travels to the border of France and Spain, to the Basque Country. He explores the Basque soul—its daily life, language, song, and traditions. There is an ancient hypothesis regarding the kinship between Georgians and Basques; Otar sought the common vein that connects these two peoples. He showed us that the Basques possess their own traditions, rhythm, dignity, and truth. The director seems to tell the viewer: “Look at these people; they survived because they did not betray themselves.” It is a film about a surviving culture that guards its language and song like a precious treasure.
